New Treatment for Advanced Prostate Cancer
This treatment is cutting edge because it incorporates medical oncology, radiation oncology, and nuclear medicine in a way never been done before, and we believe it will revolutionize the lives of our patients.
At University Cancer & Blood Center, our mission is to truly change the lives of our patients for the better. That’s why our team is excited to begin offering this ground-breaking treatment with the compassionate, family-like care that exists at the heart of all we do.
How Does It Work?
A pair of new drugs seeks out and bind to PSMA-positive cells, delivering a radioactive isotope known as Lutetium-177 directly to it, destroying the cancer cell and ridding it from the body. This limits toxicity and side effects typically associated with other prostate cancer treatments. This new treatment efficiently and effectively destroys the cancer cells, even in small amounts that might go undetected in conventional diagnostic means.
On average, the treatment takes a few hours in an outpatient setting and is given once every six weeks for up to six cycles.
