For the health and safety of all UCBC patients, their family members, and our staff, we are encouraging our patients to utilize our Telehealth services if/when possible, in lieu of on-site appointments during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. This includes ALL social work services. You can contact us at (706) 353-2990 or through our patient portal, with any questions or to inquire about changing your currently scheduled in-office appointment to a Telehealth visit. UCBC will send an appointment link via text or email before a patient’s scheduled appointment. This link will include step by step instructions on how to use this service. This service will be utilized through doxy.me. This service is CMS-approved and HIPAA compliant.
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth is the use of online communication to remotely access your appointment with your same physician. These HIPAA compliant E-visits provide easy accessibility, convenience, and limit unnecessary social exposure during the COVID-19 crisis.
When should you consider Telehealth?
Designed for follow-up appointments, questions, and minor healthcare needs – Telehealth visits are a great option for scheduling appointments for continuing patients. Telehealth services are offered to anyone who doesn’t need physical treatment, are comfortable with, and have the capability to access their appointments online. We understand that many people may not feel comfortable with this method of appointment, and that is completely okay. This is an option and is NOT required.
Please call if you have questions about whether you can attend an appointment via Telehealth.
How do I access my Telehealth appointment?
Only the patient can access their telehealth appointment. UCBC will send an appointment link via text or email before a patient’s scheduled appointment. This link will include step by step instructions on how to use this service. This service is compatible with smartphones, tablets, and computers. Audio and video are required.
Is Social Work available via Telehealth?
Yes! A cancer diagnosis and treatment are stressful enough without the strain of having to shelter in place and feel further isolated from your support systems. Worries can skyrocket during this time and anxiety symptoms multiply. Our clinical oncology social work team has been hard at work to make counseling sessions available through the telehealth platform (the same ones your doctors are using) so that you can continue to receive the same support you need in the safety and comfort of your own home. They are also able to now offer our risk assessment counseling and genetic testing program via telehealth as well.
Additionally, we know that the changes caused by COVID-19 can raise practical issues for you and your family, including increased financial stress, transportation issues, and problems meeting living expenses, to name a few. Our social work team is available to assist you and your loved ones in addressing some of these concerns. They will be using remote/virtual options to assist you, including telephone and fax.
